Food Pantry

For more information about this group, please contact: Annette Brister at abrister@grandecom.net

Lake Shore has had a food pantry since the 1980s distributing some nonperishable items to individuals who sought assistance from the church. The pantry increased its ability to serve a larger clientele in the early 2000s after it became eligible to participate in Caritas’ “Gifts in Kind” outlet (GIK) and became a member of the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas (CAFB). The pantry purchases diapers, paper towels, toiletry items, and other non-food items from GIK and both canned goods and fresh produce from the CAFB. The pantry is also supported in the church’s budget, takes in a monthly “gathering” from members, and is the recipient of food collected during the annual food drives in the Central Texas area.

Each Thursday volunteers register clients and their households and assist clients in selecting available items from the pantry. Other volunteers shop bi-weekly at the GIK outlet, pick up early morning deliveries from the CAFB, and restock the pantry.
